covid 19 essentials

With the increasing number of covid cases daily, one has no option but to be prepared to deal with it. A universal truth ‘Prevention is better than cure’ holds especially true in this case. With the overburdening of medical facilities and rampant spread of the virus, one must ideally take all precautions to prevent this.

– Stay at home unless it is necessary to step out

– Wear an N95 mask or a double mask if you step out

– Maintain 6 feet distance from anyone

– Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your elbow when you sneeze or cough

– Avoid any group gatherings

– Wash your hands for 20 seconds multiple times daily or use a sanitizer

– Do not touch your face

– Surfaces that are frequently used or touched should be disinfected

These are the steps you must follow to prevent the spread of CoVid-19. During these times you must also have certain essential items with you at all times.

N95 Mask or a surgical face mask

With the current strain it is advised that one double mask so a good stock of this should be present in your house at all times. This is the first thing that one must buy in their list of covid essentials to purchase. It prevents the inhalation and exhalation of droplets when one sneezes or coughs. The mask should not be hanging loosely on your face and should snugly envelope your nose, mouth and chin with no gaps.

Face Shield

Like a face mask, the face shield prevents your respiratory system from being exposed to foreign bodies. It is transparent and resembles the shape pf a helmet and provides protection to the face and mask from direct spray of any bodily fluids.  The use of a mask and shield protects both the wearer and the person next to them.

Hand Sanitizer

Germs on the hands plays a leading role in spreading the virus from on person to another which is why it even advised to not shake hands anymore.  According to the CDC, using a hand sanitizer with minimum 60% alcohol (this will be listed as ethanol, ethyl alcohol, isopropanol, or 2-propanol in the ingredients) is effective against germs. One must properly Rub the sanitizer all over the hands and fingers till the hands dry. Children should be supervised if they are using it and ideally it should be kept out of their reach.

It is advised that one should wash their hands for 20 seconds multiple times during the day, however this may not always be possible which is why a sanitizer is recommended. Keep a sanitizer at various locations such as your bag so you always have access to it when you step out of the house, your car and multiple places of the house especially at the entrance so the first thing one can do is sanitize their hands when they enter.

Infrared Thermometer

An infrared thermometer is a thermometer that infers the temperature through thermal radiation, also known as black body radiation that is emitted by the object being measured. These have become extremely useful during the pandemic as they are a contactless way of keeping tabs on the body temperature of individuals. These have become a common sight at public places, hospitals and even houses as they tend to promote a hygienic and non-transferable way of ensuring safety within the family members as well.

Disinfection devices

Another essential Covid home kit component would be disinfection devices. The virus has brought to light that just cleaning our surroundings is not enough; disinfecting is an additional and important step that ensures the removal of all bacteria and viruses around you. The disinfectants could be in the form of sprays or UV boxes that allow for instant and easy killing of harmful bacteria around you. These are especially great for high contact surfaces and objects in the house.

Pulse Oximeter

The Coronavirus is known to bring down oxygen levels by impacting the lungs it infects. It is very important to start monitoring your oxygen levels even if you start to show any symptom regardless of whether you have a positive RT-PCR report. A pulse oximeter is a handy medical equipment that enables you to track your pulse and oxygen levels and take quick action if you see the levels dipping.
