Yann LeCun a professor at New York University once said, “Our intelligence is what makes us human and AI is an extension of that quality.” Will AI eventually make the world a better place especially in the education sector?

That is a question that only the future holds. For now, we can only assess the trends of AI and the impact it has on education.

AI is one of the most discussed exploratory topics of the modern age. We should strive to better understand how this technology will work in future classrooms.

Before that, however, it is important to note the significance of AI-based education to teachers and students currently.

1.      Personalized education

One of the biggest perks of AI in education is personalized and individualized learning. One of the ways this is done is through the use of adaptive learning software and programs.

These systems adapt to the student’s needs by creating a personalized study schedule according to knowledge gaps.  They highlight certain topics, make a repetition of topics that haven’t been mastered, and work at a learner’s pace.

Students of different levels could be brought together through custom-tailored education through machine-assisted solutions. Teachers on the other hand facilitate learning and give support where needed.

AI generates customizable interfaces such as study guides, bite-sized lessons, and digital textbooks. All these aids help the learner follow the course material more closely.

Studies show that AI can help students to perceive information better through web-based learning environments, visualization, and simulation. Abstract and technical concepts are better understood and memorized when visual aids are employed.

Automating some tasks through AI leaves teachers to focus on more important things. These include self-education, grading assignments that are impossible to delegate to AI, and upgrading lesson content and quality.

AI can also accommodate psychological needs such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, etc. Intelligent systems can be programmed to understand learner disability. The system then figures out the best techniques to help a learner understand concepts.

AI systems are not affected by human factors such as fatigue, sickness, irritation, and distraction. With AI, students can always access learning. Students can schedule learning in their productive hours anywhere since AI is not subject to location barriers.

9.      Provides feedback to tutors and learners

AI not only helps to craft courses and tutor learners but also provides valuable feedback about the effectiveness of the course. This offers insight into where course content needs to be adjusted or changed.

AI is used to monitor students’ progress and performance. This helps instructors understand which subjects and topics are problematic to particular students.
