1) Before You Play:
Things You Don’t Want to Miss
Before you play, I’d like to mention a few things that will help you survive longer. First of all, whenever possible take the time to aim your weapon. No matter how fast firing or powerful some guns are, they’re useless if you can’t hit what you’re shooting at. Take the time to line up your cross-hairs with an enemy’s head before firing. Also, always reload after every battle.
It may be some work, but it’ll save your life more times than not. The last thing is use herbs! There are many places where you have two or three herb plants in the same room yet only have one type of herb maturing at any given time. Go ahead and pick up the mature herb, then go back to the other plants and harvest them too.
2) Beginners’ Campaign:
Who You’ll Meet
You will meet three different types of enemies in this campaign. First there are zombies- mindless people that want nothing more than to eat you, they’re slow but powerful when they get their hands on you. Then there are hunters; these guys move quickly and can do a lot of damage if you don’t keep your distance or take them out quickly.
Finally, almost at the end of your journey (chapter 4 or 5), you will run into Yawn! He’s big, blue, and likes to swallow things whole- including YOU! I’d suggest saving your game whenever he’s around.
The goal of the beginner’s campaign is to get out! That’s it, simple as that. Most people play through this section once, find out how it ends, and never touch it again… until they pick up an unlock code somewhere or buy Resident Evil on a later date! Tutorials are always fun to do though. You should be able to beat this section in around half an hour your first time through.
This will probably take you longer the first time because you won’t be familiar with anything yet- including controls, gameplay mechanics, etc.. but there are good reasons for that! Try not to worry about the difficulty level right now; just have fun playing because that’s what Resident Evil was made for.
You’ll come back to this section when you’ve played enough of the game to die many times… it won’t be so easy then! Later on, I will say something about difficulties. Don’t worry too much about them now though, just have fun.
3) Advanced Campaign:
Pick Up That Key!
You’ll begin this campaign by waking up in a cell with Jill’s clothes laying next to you. Take them and put them on- they’re already equipped with bullets for every slot in your inventory which is good news for you since Jill starts out with P220 Pistol Bullets, unlike Chris who starts with H&K VP70 Machinegun Bullets.
This means that if you configure characters the same way at the beginning, Jill will have twice as many pistol bullets as Chris.
Take a moment to look around the cell and you’ll find a Weapon Box Key on top of a box in the back of the cell. Go ahead and collect it so we can use it later… after you get out of this room! A zombie is wandering around right outside your door- he hasn’t seen you yet so don’t worry about him.
Hop over the crate in front of your bed, then jump onto the table from there. From here you can hop into another alcove where two zombies are waiting for their dinner (you). Take them out with one easy shot from your trusty P220 before they can eat you! After that they’re pretty simple to take out since all they can do is try to grab you.
Now that the room’s clear, hop back down and go through the door on your left. There are zombies in here too so get ready for some fun! By this time you should have enough pistol bullets to take out everyone in this room easily just by firing constantly while backing up. Remember, dodge zombies attacks (walk sideways) when possible- they’ll eventually miss! Use your knife if it’s more convenient… or even better; use one of their own weapons against them!
Don’t bother trying to find secrets; there aren’t any here. Once everyone is dead, go ahead and open the Weapon Box at the back of the room (it may be locked). If your Jill is lucky enough to get a Submachinegun out of it, drop the Pistol since you won’t have any more use for it. This will be the only time in the game where you’ll do this because later on there are much better handguns that even Chris can use!
After opening the Weapon Box, go into your inventory and select whatever weapon(s) you’ve found so far. Now equip both hands with weapons- this makes fighting so much easier! Go through the door at the back of this room to continue…
There’s no boss here so just run forward until you see something heavy fall down from above. Jinkies! That was a trap- congratulations! You’re about to fight one of my favorite bosses ever.
