Octane is a measure of the capacity of fuel to survive a knock-out, a ping or knocking noise from the engine that a driver can hear. The fuel in the combustion chamber of a machine is explosive or unregulated and can very quickly kill an engine.

The fact that “high octane fuels don’t have to pack more energy than regular items” is not proved by improving efficiency.


All you need to do is follow the owner’s manual and fill out the petroleum octane in the fuel bunk, the octane classification of which is the number given in the brochure. Anything beyond the provided amount would not be ideal for you since you would pay more per litre.
