Stickers, labels, decals. Clear, transparent, see-thru. There are a lot of words here that can get confusing, and we want to help.

If you have encountered the terms custom labels & custom stickers and don’t understand the differences, we’re about to fix that.

So let’s get stuck in.

What is the difference between stickers & labels?

On a basic level, there’s no difference. Custom stickers & labels are both sticky-backed printed bits of plastic or paper. However, there are vital differences that are worth understanding.

Stickers get cut individually, whereas labels come on sheets or rolls. This image shows the difference:

Do clear, transparent & see-thru stickers all look the same?

The short answer is yes. Clear, transparent, and see-thru are all synonyms of the word clear. So if you want a clear sticker or label that’s transparent, look for these 3 words. They look like this:

Does it matter if I choose stickers or labels?

Yes, yes, yes! And a whole load more than you think.

Labels are around 65% quicker to peel from the backing than stickers. When applying 1000 stickers or labels to your products, this can save 1:30hrs, which is massive!

How do I know what to get?

Here we explain some factors which will help you decide if you should be getting stickers or labels.

Single cut stickers

If you sell stickers individually or give them to customers or influencers, buy separately cut stickers. You can often get only a few at a time and can quickly sell them one by one.

Sheet labels

If you apply your labels in-house to either your own product, packaging, or another use, get labels on sheets! We cannot recommend this highly enough.

It will speed up your application drastically as they’re rapid to peel & apply. Sheets are also easy to store and distribute, especially if you go for a standard size A4 or A5.

Roll labels

Labels on rolls are ideal if a machine can either automatically apply them or semi-automatically help to apply.

Here are examples of small machines:

And there we have it. We hope you now completely understand the difference between clear stickers & clear labels & why you should get one or the other.

You can get transparent stickers in many shapes, such as rectangles, circles, and even custom-shaped die-cut stickers.
